- Oct 23, 2012 More accurate Blade of Woe - posted in Skyrim Mod Requests: I know there are plenty of mods out there with a 'better' Blade of Woe, but so far, I've seen none that actually try to make it like the one in Oblivion. I mean, in terms of enchantment, not just appearance. Oblivion's Blade of Woe had Demoralize, Damage Health, Damage Willpower, and Damage Magicka.
- Oblivion's Blade of Woe had Demoralize, Damage Health, Damage Willpower, and Damage Magicka. Skyrim's Blade of Woe is already stronger in terms of damage than Oblivion's, so that Damage Health is not needed, and Skyrim no longer has stats, so Damage Willpower is impossible. Therefore, the Skyrim Blade of Woe should have 2 effects.

Disenchantable[edit]
It should be noted that The Blade of Woe can be disenchanted, more so that it isn't inadvertently disenchanted than as a recommendation. Artemis Entreri 17:43, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Damage equal to Dragonbone[edit]
Isn't the Blade of Woe equal in base damage to the Dragonbone dagger? If so, then should someone remove the note on the Blade of Woe being the most powerful dagger in game. — Unsigned comment by 67.142.168.27 (talk) at 14:00 on 5 August 2012
- In cases like this, it is best to add extra info, as not everyone will be getting Dawnguard. Extra note added about the change. The Silencer speaksTalk 14:15, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
Speed of the Blade[edit]
The blade is categorized as a dagger and the speed is only 1 instead of 1.3. This would mean that a daedric dagger is far faster with 1.3 and the only pro of using the Blade of Woe instead of a sword is that it will not be heard (reach is 0.7 instead of 1)? — Unsigned comment by 83.87.139.4 (talk) at 16:14 on September 8, 2012
- That is correct. Although it has a slightly higher damage rating. The Silencer (talk) 12:18, 8 September 2012 (EDT)
- Looking in the CK, the weapon speed decreases the damage per second to only 12, making the damage per second less than that of the Daedric Dagger's 14 DPS. So, while for a single hit, it does more damage than any other dagger, except for dragonbone, its damage per second is considerably lower. Increasing the weapon's speed to 1.3 nets a total 16 dps. I'd have to double check if the speed is the same on the dragonbone dagger. If the speed is at 1.3 on the dragonbone dagger, then that is uncontestedly the highest net damage in the game.
Deos not require material to improve[edit]
Page says this is a bug. Is that really a bug or a feature? — Unsigned comment by 62.232.221.98 (talk) at 11:05 on 6 November 2012
- That's a fair point, I think it should be moved to the notes section instead. RIM (talk) 11:21, 6 November 2012 (GMT)
Stagger[edit]
Skyrim Se Blades Armor Mod
Is it worth noting that, according to the creation kit, the Blade of Woe actually has a stagger rating? It's one-third the stagger of a sword, but it is, as far as I know, the only dagger that has any at all. Scaled157 (talk) 07:47, 9 November 2012 (GMT)
Pickpocket[edit]
Is is possible to get this by reverse-pickpocketing a strong one-handed weapon onto Astrid, then get her to equip that weapon? If so, then the Blade of Woe could be obtained without the perk. I'll make an attempt at this and see what happens, but what methods can I use to possibly get her to swap equipped weapons?--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 01:58, 3 March 2013 (GMT)
- It worked. I gave her and Iron Greatsword, then left the sanctuary and came back, but she did not swap weapons. Then I gave her a Glass Sword I got from one of the ghost at the Dawnstar Sanctuary just prior, and when I exited and came back in she had it equipped instead of the Blade of Woe. Is there any page that notes this possible technique for getting unique items from NPCs?--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 02:51, 3 March 2013 (GMT)
- What do I need to pickpocket this thing? I've tried two powerful rings: one at 850% fortify pickpocket and the other at 6684% fortify pickpocket, and neither helps one bit. I used the stronger of the two to give her the Jester's Clothing at 0% chance and take them back at 90% chance, but the game appears to take the theoretically very similarly difficult to take Blade of Woe's ever constant displayed chance of 0% quite literally. I wasted a couple hours trying to fight my way through this by reloading and trying again and trying a few different things like making that super-powerful ring. I guess I'll have to spend a few more hours pushing Pickpocket from 38 to 100 to see what that does for me. Other people claim to have used Misdirection to do this sort of thing, and all I can assume is that the game is bent on being prejudiced to my otherwise powerful rings when I really want to pickpocket something.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 03:24, 3 March 2013 (GMT)
- Never mind, I figured out the formula, then went on pickpocket spree for a couple of hours that might as well have been broken considering that I took everyone's valuables in Windhelm and Riften with ease. I then finally stole her Blade of Woe without using misdirection.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 17:11, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Blade of Woe
The Blade of Woe is a unique dagger belonging to Astrid, the leader of the only remaining Dark Brotherhood group in Skyrim. It can be received in three ways: pickpocketing from Astrid, killing Astrid during the Quest With Friends Like These.., or at the end of the quest Death Incarnate.
Related Quests[edit]
- With Friends Like These..: Repay your debt to the Family, and show you are willing to kill on command.
- Death Incarnate: Assist Brotherhood members in the fight against the Penitus Oculatus assault.
Notes[edit]
- The first version (
000964c9
) is the one used by Astrid; the second version (0009ccdc
) is the one given to you. - You can pickpocket the Blade of Woe from Astrid during the quest With Friends Like These.. using the Misdirection perk. The blade may also be taken from Astrid using a high level disarm shout. You will then receive a second Blade of Woe at the end of Death Incarnate.
- You can also pickpocket the Blade of Woe from Astrid after hiding in the Night Mother's coffin, before you leave the sanctuary.
- The Blade of Woe is the most powerful dagger in the game, but also the slowest. Its burst damage is favorable to stealthy players, as its DPS in normal combat is inferior to other daggers.
- The Dawnguard add-on adds the dragonbone dagger, which deals 12 base damage and has a slightly lighter weight (6.5), which makes it a much better choice as it isn't reduced to a situational weapon.
- Myrwatch's galleryCC contains a special holder for this item.
Bugs[edit]
- Unlike any other dagger, The Blade of Woe shares the same speed with swords, which makes it the slowest dagger in game.
- This bug is fixed by version 1.0 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
- No materials are required for tempering the Blade of Woe. Whether or not this is a bug or intended by the developers is not known.
- This issue has been addressed by version 1.0 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch; based on the keywords that already apply to it, it now requires a steel ingot.
